I hope that you don’t have too many April showers, though look forward to May flowers! Maybe that saying (April showers being May flowers) only applies in California, I am not sure.
The holidays I wanted to celebrate this month are Passover, which ends April 4, Easter on April 4 as well, and Day of Silence, on April 24. Passover is the Jewish holiday celebrating the exodus of Jews from Egypt. Easter is a Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. Day of Silence is a student-led national protest where folks take a vow of silence to highlight the silencing and erasure of LGBTQ people at school. These are all important days to celebrate and remember, and I hope to do them justice!

Charoset
Pear and Spiced Port Ganache with Toasted Walnuts
Charoset is eaten at Passover, made of apples, pears, walnuts, and red wine. It symbolizes the mortar the Jewish slaves used when laying the Pharaoh’s monuments. I loved celebrating Passover as a child. There is a part in the Seder (first night’s dinner) where the youngest person gets to read or chant four questions. As the youngest child, I was always so excited to proudly and clearly chant out “my role”. Even now, chanting the questions it makes me feel very connected to my family, to the holiday, and to being Jewish.

Eggcelent
Rosemary and Thyme White Chocolate Ganache
To me, a Jewish kid, Easter didn’t have much significance. But, we started getting invited to Easter lunch at our good friends’ house, and now those flavors are what I associate with the holiday. I remember rosemary lamb chops with gravy, salty roasted herbed potatoes, and plenty of desserts. Easter is full of fresh spices with the new spring, and that is what I hope to invoke with this chocolate.

Blossom
Poison Oak Blossom Honey and Orange Blossom Caramel
I love the earthy, almost savory taste of poison oak blossom honey. I discovered it at a farmer’s market in San Francisco soon after moving to the Bay Area, and I have loved it ever since. This ganache balances the sweet floral of orange blossom and the darker woody flavor of the honey.

Silence
Elderflower and Champagne White Chocolate Ganache
I was the president of my high school’s Gay Straight Alliance for 3.5 years. Being part of the club helped me come to understand who I am, and fueled my desire to help other LGBTQIA+ kids. I always took Day of Silence very seriously, and tried to make the other members in my club see it as a way of standing in solidarity with others like ourselves. Though I no longer stay silent for the day, I still find it a very moving and powerful day.

Temptation
Grains of Paradise and Whiskey Milk Chocolate Ganache
I love the combination of these flavors. Grains of paradise are peppery and citrusy, and the whiskey brings toffee and vanilla toastiness. They are rounded and mellowed with the milk chocolate, definitely tempting you to have another!

Azafrán
Saffron Milk Chocolate Ganache
Saffron has had a long and interesting history in the spice trade. It is important to many cultures, but is known particularly popular in Persian and Spanish cuisine. I love how this ganache is so bright and almost acidic with the saffron before rounding out with the lovely sweetness of milk chocolate.
Cookie Flavors:
Anzac Cookies
ANZAC is the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. These cookies, made with coconut and oats have been associated with the ANZAC since World War I.
Orange Cookies
These cakey, citrusy cookies are simply delightful! They are made with lots of orange zest and juice, and are glazed with a blood orange icing.
